Etna Biotech S.r.l. is a Research Centre headquartered in Catania, Italy.  Start up of the former Swiss Serum and Vaccine Institute, later Berna Biotech, Etna Biotech is a company whose key competencies lie in researching and developing vaccines and immunotherapeutics for infectious diseases and other chronic illnesses.  Etna Biotech has been acquired in 2008 by the Zydus International Ltd a Zydus Cadila Company.  Zydus Cadila is an innovative global pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of healthcare products.  The company is one of the top five pharmaceutical companies in India.  The pipeline of Etna Biotech includes programs for developing vaccines against different diseases, as well as an adjuvant screening programme.  Current R&D collaborations include partnerships with National Institute of Health, Edinburgh University; University of Heidelberg, Johns Hopkins University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, University of Catania, etc.  Etna Biotech has been participated in former of Framework Programme (FP) programmes of the EC, as well as in national grant programmes funded by EU.

Etna Biotech laboratories are well equipped to perform studies in biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, virology and immunology.  Etna Biotech has access to modern animal facilities at University of Catania and Zydus Cadila.  In the animal facility Etna’s projects are approved by an external ethical committee.

ETNA will be work package leader of work package 3 (Mouse immunogenicity studies).
